Made it to the the Salt Lake City airport Marriott a day early. Started the day alittle later than normal, had breakfast at the hotel and was on the road by 7:30. Rode up a hill by Lehi and took a picture of the Salt Lake City Valley. Headed to Canyon Cycle in Draper (22 miles out) to have them look at my front wheel and adjust my rear derailer. While I was at the bike store Dan hung out at a McDonald’s .5 miles away. The cycle shop replaced the front Armadillo tire that had a slash in the side wall, trued the front wheel and ajusted the derailer.
At about 30 miles out we stopped at a Subway for lunch and found that the front wheel was going flat. Replaced the tube with one of the new tubes that I purchased. We split a $5 foot long sub. Two people stopped us, knew about RAGBRAI and asked if we where going to ride it this year, yes!
Had to wait for 20 minutes for a very long train 2 miles from the hotel.
We are staying a Fairfield for the next 4 day’s while I go to Boston.

A “timeout” for Boston?? Geez, when you take a bike trip you don’t mess around do ya! If you’re cutting up through SL City, does this mean you’re following the Route 80 track west – east versus the Route 70? You’d bypass some serious Rockie mtn rides this way I suppose. Also appears the weather has been giving you somegreat breaks so far as well. This trip is still so awesome!! Everyone’s wishes to you for continued good luck and hopefully following winds when you start heading more sirectly eastward.
Yes we plan on taking to 80 route when I get back to Salt Lake City. Yes the weather has been about as good as we could expect, we have had the low high while going through some of the hotest parts of Utah. Other than light drizzel in CA we have not had precipitation.
