Woke up at 5:07, had a couple of cups of coffee, Dan had a piece of breakfast pizza, biking by 5:45, warm (72) and only hot warmer as we biked hwy 30 all day.
The corn in this area is doing great, tall, green and tassling. Saw what appears to be an original section of hwy 30 bridge next to the road that we are biking.
The towns were nicely spaced, 9-11 miles. Just after Elm Creek a car pulled off in front of us and a young girl jumped out and handed us each a very cold bottle of water, how kind.
As we came into Kearney we stopped at a grocery store to pick up bread and Gatorade. We found a Wells Fargo bank to pull some cash, only the second time that I have been to the bank on this trip. We are staying at Midtown Western Inn, two beds! The temp is now 88 and climbing, looks like we will get rain tonight.
Did 51.9 miles at an average spped of 14.1. The wind was from the south, starting tomorrow the south wind should be helping us as we start to head north on hwy 30.
Home stretch, baby!!! You are going to have a loooong stay in Sioux City at this rate. Guess that will give you a good rest to go at RAGBRAI with the rest of us. You’ll have to do some shopping at the RAGBRAI vendors and pick up some clearanced and previous year gear (Jake wants bike pants with “real” padding, not the “crap” you handed down to him) 😀
2 tornadoes passed through Dakota county today, saw a bunch of debris on 21 near 35. We had really heavy rain and hail. Filled up the pool nicely :).
