Woke up at 5:15, went across the street for breakfast at McDonald’s. Presented with a beautiful sunrise. Biked hwy 35 to Dakota City, NE, did not have a shoulder until the turn east after Wakefield.
Had a problem crossing the Missouri River, the only crossings are federal Interstate Highways which are posted bikes prohibited. We took I129/20 which had a full lane and the shoulder closed for resurfacing. Biked 46 miles averaged 12.1, north wind again and rolling hills. Rained but not hard enough to put on my rain suit.
We will be staying at the Fairfield Inn for the next 3-4 nights. Need to do wash and change my rear tire. My back tire is separating from the casing just like all of the truck tires we have seen along the side of the road. With the rain the last couple days it made a squish, squish sound every revolution. I am going to install a new Specialized Armadillo before RAGBRAI.
Walked to the mall area, looked at Scheels Outfitters at bike gear, Dan is looking for a new pack, having problems with the zipper closing on his current pack. Then walked to HyVee to pick up Bud Light Lime, Fig Newtons and raisins. Had two beers before going to bed.
Talked with Toyota service to ask what the warrenty is for the the replacement hybrid battery for the Pruis. Disappointing to find out the replacement warrenty is 12 months and unlimited milage. The battery had not come in yet, thought that it would be early Wednesday.
